Sorry, I'll get to my point of the blog. This past weekend, there was a an event called "Know your Numbers." This was an annual employee only event in our store's break room. But this year, for me, was special because I completed all the stations of the health screenings.
How this event works is there are stations set up in the break room: weight, height & BMI, cholesterol & blood-glucose tests and the final talk by the pharmacist as to what all your numbers mean.
In past years, I have only completed the weight, height & BMI screenings and forgone the quick needle poke. I am a wuss when it comes to needles going inside of me. I am a fainter actually and have really bad anxiety when I hear the blood/needle term!
Anyways, I just convinced myself that I really should know my numbers, as should everyone. As we age, cholesterol and blood-glucose level tests become more important. Cholesterol tests are usually blood tests or in this case, a quick and seemingly painless finger poke was all it took to be sure that my LDL (bad cholesterol) was low and my HDL (good cholesterol) was high.
I felt so great after I'd completed all stations and saw my numbers on paper. They are all in the healthy range and this proves that my diligent gym schedule along with my nutritious diet are proving themselves powerful.
As more and more people die of heart attacks and strokes each DAY, it's made me realize how important it is to take care of myself now, at a young age. Hopefully, I'll be less likely to have health issues when I get older as a result of my practices now.
If you don't know YOUR numbers, it's never too late! And I promise, it's real a painless process because I could handle it without ending up humiliated on the floor after everything was done :).
