Traveling this world, while I'm confident that I will complete it someday, I, nor you, can't forget about the natural beauty we are surrounded with; sometimes I feel that it gets overlooked.
From absolutely breathtaking waterfalls to massive green tree-lined gorges and wild animals beyond counting, our world is beautiful.
Just an hour and a half drive from my house in Buffalo, New York is where you will be able to experience the nature-filled life that I had this past weekend. Letchworth State Park is located in Castile, New York and held all of my weekend memories.
Camping was not even close to bad. In fact, I had an amazing weekend because reality just disappeared from my mind and I was able to enjoy natural beauty. As for the bathroom in the woods concern, I lucked out to find a real bathroom with showers about 25 feet from our campsite. I couldn't have been more relieved.
Sure, sleeping in tents feeling the rock-hard ground beneath my back was not the most enjoyable part of the trip, but huddling around the campfire, all wet and muddy on a rainy night, playing games and talking WAS the best part.
Oh, not to forget the beautiful hike we took earlier that day around this ginormous gorge.
Overall, deciding to go out of my comfort zone this weekend was the best thing for me. I saw a quote on Pinterest earlier today, "If you don't push yourself in life, challenges don't exist and you're not living." This is so true. Challenges make us stronger mentally and physically and conquering them leaves us with such a rewarding feeling.
I think next time I go camping I might rent a cabin just so we don't have to worry about leaving food outside our tents at night and getting it ripped apart by wild animals or getting caught in a puddle of mud when stepping outside our tent to use the bathroom.
But this weekend, for me, was definitely a step in the right direction towards exploring our world. My advice to everyone is to look for beauty in your backyard; you don't need to hop on a plane and head to a far away place for a vacation...just take a drive, explore and get out of your comfort zone!
